F1 Dutch Grand Prix Results: Disaster For Verstappen As Race For The 2026 Championship Heats Up

Lando Norris claimed back-to-back Formula 1 victories in a dramatic Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, beating championship leader Kimi Antonelli and his Mercedes teammate George Russell in a race which delivered an early shock and a tense strategic battle for the win.

The race was thrown into chaos almost immediately when local hero Max Verstappen crashed out on the opening lap. Starting seventh after a difficult qualifying session, Verstappen lost control through the final banked corner, with his Red Bull hitting the concrete wall and scattering debris across the circuit.

The incident prompted a red flag, bringing an abrupt end to Verstappen's final home Grand Prix. Thankfully, the four-time world champion climbed from the car uninjured, but his hopes of ending his Zandvoort career with another victory—or, at the very least, a podium finish—were over.

When the race restarted, Norris faced an immediate challenge from Antonelli, who moved ahead of the McLaren. However, the reigning world champion remained firmly in contention, and McLaren's strategy ultimately proved decisive.

Norris stayed out longer on his final set of tyres, building enough of a strategic advantage to make his move later in the race. With around 15 laps remaining, he overtook Antonelli to retake the lead and then managed the gap through to the chequered flag. Antonelli had to settle for second, but the result represented another major step in his championship campaign.

The Mercedes driver extended his advantage at the top of the standings to 59 points, moving onto 242 points after 14 rounds.

Russell completed the podium in third, although his finish was not without controversy. Mercedes instructed him to allow Antonelli through late in the race, with Russell subsequently having to defend hard from Lewis Hamilton on fresher soft tyres. Russell won Saturday's Sprint race, so you have to believe that stung the Brit, who is rapidly falling behind the Championship leader.

Hamilton ultimately finished fourth for Ferrari, ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc. Oscar Piastri recovered to sixth after starting fourth, while Liam Lawson delivered an impressive seventh-place finish for Red Bull after stepping in for the injured Isack Hadjar. Nico Hulkenberg, Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly completed the points-paying positions.

For Norris, the victory marks his second consecutive win following his triumph in Hungary and his second victory of the 2026 season. It also represents another strong indication that McLaren's recent improvements have moved the team firmly back into contention at the sharp end of the grid. At this point in the season, the Championship isn't Antonelli's yet.
