Netflix has announced that Drive to Survive Season 8—which covers the 2025 F1 season—will premiere on February 27. A trailer hasn't been released yet, but we do have a teaser poster for the show's highly anticipated return.
That puts the spotlight on Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and George Russell, five drivers who were all key components of what proved to be an intense and exciting year for the sport.
We'd imagine that much of the season will be dedicated to the three-way Drivers' Championship battle between Norris, Piastri, and Verstappen, with a lot of time spent delving into the controversy surrounding "Papaya Rules" and the impact that ultimately had on the outcome.
"Offering unprecedented access, this new season will once again take fans behind the scenes, to witness first-hand how the drivers and teams prepare to battle it out for the 2025 FIA Formula 1 World Championship," reads the official synopsis. "The series will offer never-before-seen footage as we follow new team lineups, management takedowns, fierce friendships and bitter rivalries of another high-octane season on the Formula 1 circuit."
Formula 1: Drive to Survive is executive-produced by Academy Award winner James Gay-Rees (Amy, Senna) and Paul Martin (Diego Maradona) for Box to Box Films.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter last year, Gay-Rees addressed how Drive to Survive has resonated with audiences (while it remains divisive with longtime racing fans, it has brought a lot of new people to the sport).
"It has its own space in the culture now, Drive to Survive, unlike most of the other shows we make, which I’m equally proud of, but DTS was the first one. It’s the biggest one. It’s got its own fan base. It’s human nature. I think every time we finish the series, we think, ‘Oh, that could be it.’ But then there’s still demand for it. So it’s obviously up to our friends at Netflix and Formula One, to some extent, to dictate how long it goes on for. But it’s still this big, noisy show that people look forward to. As long as they keep on enjoying it, then the word of mouth will continue to be strong and people will turn up to watch it."
