F1 Chinese Grand Prix Race Results: Kimi Antonelli Makes History As Disaster Strikes For McLaren

The Chinese Grand Prix featured plenty of on-track excitement, but when all was said and done, it was Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli who made history in a race that proved disastrous for McLaren.

Kimi Antonelli has become the youngest Formula 1 race-winner ever, with the 19-year-old Italian sensation claiming his maiden F1 victory in a dramatic Chinese Grand Prix, holding off Mercedes teammate George Russell to take the checkered flag in Shanghai.

At the start of the race, Lewis Hamilton rocketed from P3 to snatch the lead from both Mercedes cars in a brilliant getaway for Ferrari. The seven-time World Champion's time at the front was short-lived, though, as Antonelli fought and retook the top spot before the end of lap two. From there, he controlled the race.

Despite a heart-in-mouth moment when he ran deep at the Turn 14 hairpin with just four laps left, Antonelli crossed the line an impressive 5.5 seconds clear of Russell.

His teammate, fresh from victory in Saturday's Sprint, had to claw his way back to second after losing ground amid a wild mid-race scrap with the Ferraris.

Hamilton delivered for Ferrari with his first Grand Prix podium for the Scuderia, right at the same Shanghai circuit where he scored his lone win last season in the China Sprint. But it didn't come easy; the seven-time Drivers' Champion engaged in an intense back-and-forth battle with teammate Charles Leclerc. The two ran side-by-side on multiple occasions in an epic intra-team duel, with Leclerc eventually settling for fourth.

Haas' Ollie Bearman impressed once again, charging to fifth as the best of the rest. Pierre Gasly kept Alpine's points streak alive with P6, while the Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson and Red Bull's Isack Hadjar nabbed seventh and eighth. Carlos Sainz scored for Williams in P9, and Franco Colapinto rounded out the top ten for Alpine despite a clash with Haas' Esteban Ocon.

Max Verstappen's miserable weekend ended in retirement 10 laps from the finish. The Red Bull icon was running P6 when an issue forced him out of the race. Still, some might say that pales in comparison to McLaren's woes: both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri didn't even make the grid thanks to separate electrical issues with the cars.
